The Volkswagen e-Crafter – check the reserve in winter (video)

Volkswagen was one of the first who brought to the European market electric vehicle with GVW up to 3.5 t. This machine is called the e-Crafter and is equipped with “stuffing” from the modernized electric Volkswagen e-Golf. So here the electric motor is 100 kW, which feed lithium ion batteries 35.5 kW.h. The manufacturer promises a range of up to 173 km from the Famous Norwegian blogger Bjorn Nyland – test driver of electric vehicles, decided to check the actual reserve e-Crafter in urban environments.

The tests took place in the afternoon on the streets of Oslo in the start-stop operation: traffic lights, stop outside the shops, a small toffee. The machine, however, was not loaded. Note that the payload of the e-Crafter in this configuration – 970 kg Volume of cargo space is 10.7 cubic meters.

So, the van hitting the city for 3.54 hours 78 km. electricity Consumption amounted to 35.3 kW 100 km Average speed – 19 km/h. After that, the onboard computer showed a cruising range of 11 km and So the real power reserve in the city when the air temperature is from minus 3C to minus 6C – about 85 km. And it again, without a load in the back.

In principle a good idea. Moreover, according to research, 85% of daily routes for delivery vans in the city do not exceed 70 – 100 km.

Now about charging. The usual station is a 7.2 kW “fed to satiety” Volkswagen e-Crafter for 5.5 hours. But quick-charging station 40 – 50 kW will cope with this task within an hour.

For driving on the highway e-Crafter is not very suitable. First ,the battery capacity is insufficient. Second, the maximum speed limited to 90 km/h During the test-drive was carried out measurement of power consumption when driving at constant speed on the track. And that’s what happened. At 70 km/h – 272 watts.h on km, at 80 km/HR 300 watts.h on km and at 90 km/h – 363 watts.h on km.

And now about the price issue. The Volkswagen e-Crafter, as his donor for the “stuffing”, more expensive brother with the engine almost two times. So, the price of e-Golf will start in Germany from 35 EUR 900 and the e-Grafter – 69 500 Euro.
